Lets start from yesterday, had to wake up early to get to the lecture. After the lectures I went to the dental school to have a chat to a course co ordinator but found out today she's on sick leave until the 8th of june so can't talk to her about the misplacement of my preclinic mark but she said that I can just get it remarked and not have to do another exam so I think it will be alright.
There was a spontaneous dinner that elaine wanted before the end of sem. It was raining though so i think that's why elaine didn't end up showing up hahaha. so we had a nice dinner and dessert at jojo's.
i downloaded and won diablo...not that hard actually, now i'm satisfied :D
did my washing today :D, it was quite cold but luckily it all dried!
studying case analysis.

Thursdays really are the highlight of the week!
Ever since I've started assisting, thursdays have turned from being absolutely boring to the highlight of the week! Its the day which I feel I am proactively doing something :D. Today was good for a number of reasons which I'll go into shortly. I woke up initially not really wanting to get out of bed because it was quite cloudy but surprisingly warm. I convinced myself to get up and I'm glad I did.
I got to the dental school ready to assist when lo and behold there are about 5 people free for the first hour so Dr Smith (mostly in her group) decides to give a couple of demonstrations instead of letting everyone just stand around. So the first thing she needs is a volunteer but she can't use a chair which is going to be used soon after so we go into the back room. I am picked as the volunteer and realise how important local anaesthetic is in dental treatment!
The first thing she did was demonstrate how to insert ginigval retraction cord because she has seen lots of people doing it wrong so she inserts it and it is quite uncomfortable but oh well, I survive. Next she shows how to do shade guides properly and she puts some composite on the tooth to demonstrate that you can show the patient what it will look like with a sort of roughly done composite veneer on the surface of the tooth -something you don't learn in preclinic. The was absolutely painless.
The lsat thing she did was demonstrate how to put on a rubber dam using a wingless clamp. That was quite painful because my second molar didn't have much of an undercut so she put it subginigvally...ouch. She also flossed so that the ligatures went subginigival...all the while I had a mirror so I could see what was causing my pain as well as feeling it. I did learn through that experience though :D
The second part of clinic was quite fun because I learnt how to position the suction better...even though the rubber dam kept making horrendous noises. The patient also complimented our teamwork (sonya and I) which is always nice!
After that I left because I had to go to lunch with Ben and Helen at Sunnybank. We firstly went to get a drink at a cafe. It was really nice! While we were in there we saw a mobile prosthetist van! Haha only dental students can derive fun from something like that!
We then went for ramen and it was as good as i remembered :D We couldn't have any dessert because we were running short on time but we were quite full anyway...i think i fell asleep on the bus, Luckily i got off where i needed to.
The last thing we I helped aunty susan work out how to use google for about 2 hours while she did some computer exercises, in that time i was helping i watched masterchef and glee! two shows I have been neglecting. It was the final episode for the season for glee and masterchef isn't as exciting as it is in alter episodes but nonetheless, it helps you build a rapport with the contestants so i suppose that is alright. The first person to beat a celebrity chef will become the favourite!!
So today was a good day and I'm going to end it on a high note :D good night!

Masterchef is back
Yay this means that in like 10 weeks i can start watching cos that's when it gets interesting and food looks amazing :D at the moment it doesn't look so good....i mean thats not to say i wouldn't eat it...its just I don't think its tv worthy ;p This past couple of days have been quite warm I have found which is quite good because it means i can get up quicker :D
motivation levels have been going down this sem as I realise I have like 2 tests left for the semester, in a month I'll be back in Sydney!
Had a really long lab session and got a freee boost bar :D for not breaking a lead oh yeahhhhh. Also found some bubble wrap which helped me get through the session.
Preclinic was disappointing cos my drilling mark wasn't up....not sure why gotta chase that up. I also found mold on my natural teeth...apparently a few people had it so that is very strange... oh well almost finished the exercises
oh well time to do some respiratory system. this weekend i'll study 2062 only 7 lectures how hard can that be?

Layout
They've changed the layout of this thing... it makes it look like i write much less than before which is a tad annoying but I guess I'll have to deal with it. Darn layout. So the prac component for DENT 2030 is complete meaning NO MORE DENT 2030!! Obviously I passed, otherwise I'd be a lot more stressed.
Today I went to GAF 15 minute eaarly and there is absolutely no point. There is no one in there til about 3 minutes til the start of the class. Finished reading Persuasion, still really good :D
Classes are ending soon meaning I have to get my study on. I hope case analysis isn't too hard! I think I'll follow benson because He's going to all the classes and also learning third year stuff which seems to be the smart thing to do!
Been sleeping enough but for some reason I've put on some weight...darn woolworths and their cheap junk food! Its all gone now so I guess I won't be eating much more right? Not much for happened last ouple of days., Mothers day talked to mum for a while before uncle Kim called then went out for lunch before coming home.
Studied and talked to annabel today because our timetables allowed it but aside from that, not much. Perhaps its time to get proactive and reinvigorate the year! Lets go Thomas LETS GO!!

Clinic
I went to clinic 5 today and it was good. Kinda tired because clinic is tiring...even if you're just assisting...
anyway to cut a long story short i realised how you can stay overtime by half an hour even.
Not much else happened today.

Aunty Susan's Birthday
Today is Aunty Susan's Birthday. I had uni al day but managed to get a few things she wanted done. Firstly, She wanted to get some masks from the dental school so I emailed Renate and got 2 boxes for her hahaha how awesome am I? $5 30 each box.
Second I checked the reservation for High Tea for AUnty Susan and Aunty Lizzie. Confirmed, gave them the voucher number and it was all good! Got a few photos for Aunty Susan printed from her camera at BigW 12cents a print is not bad.
Aunty Linda gave us some cake so had some cake after dinner! It was good durian cake :D Mum hasn't called in a while, wonder how busy home is.

Running man!
So this last week I've had a bunch of things happen. First off I was going to go to dental school on thursday and assist but at 12 30 realised I would be late so I decided I would go this week...weak excuse I know but its the best I can do ;p
Friday had a prac, pretty boring tbh. I did well in the quiz so its all good! Today also had a quiz and it was very unconventional...group quiz whaaaat?
We had a long weekend and I finally got my washing done! yay it was terrible weather last week so it was a bit of a relief to get it done on sunday :D Watched running man! its really funny and often makes me laugh out loud!! Thanks Anthony for the eps :D I decided to put a slice of lemon in my water and I am unsure what the ramifications for my teeth will be. I think it will be alright...i mean 1:100 dilution or something so that means it won't be strong enough to dissolve the tooth structure :D
Exam timetable came out so I promptly booked my flight to sydney. My one and only exam is on 18th of June at 5: 45 so I booked one the next morning at 10 20am. lands in SYdney before midday so when I take the train it should be all good :D. The only issue for the exams is to not get slack. Compared to third years who have 8 exams I am in a much luckier position to see how it pans out and then know which subjects to focus on. Next Semester I will begin looking at third year subjects from the dropbox folder! Should be helpful. I think If i Start looking now there ins't really a point becauyse there is so much time in between but next semester the content is much more relevant I think. I will also go to all the lectures next semester (including the subjects I'm not required to go to).
I've been a bit slack in writing notes, jsut been reading the textbook and noting important things which are not in the lectures but in the textbooks and I looked at the exam from last year and saw a 5 mark question which had to do with something not in the lecture notes about the heart's relationship to the lung pressure. I now know that the heart contracting and relaxing helps with the breathing process due to the small pressure difference it contributes.
Long weekend I went to Buddha festival. It was much better this year because we came at the right time and stayed for the right length. The shows were quite good :D:D
Today I woke up early and went to the 8am lecture and did the SDL. Learnt a few things about lamina propria which I was supposed to elarn last year but got away without learning ;p So that was the last 6 days in a nutshell.

All dental school related
Now that the prac assessments are over for a while, I can get back to actually studying instead of worrying about what steps to do when i'm in the prac. The denture one I'm not too sure about because I think i overflamed the entire thing making it smooth instead of showing root eminences but I'm sure that that won't fail me. Passed another minor competency yay. No idea where my lower model is which is a bit of a shame because there are still 3 exercises i have to do and all the polishing, should take about one session i think, we'll see.
Got an email from Dr. March regarding going to clinics. She says its fine which is excellent, will be going every Thursday. I think I'll go tomorrow afternoon because I have to iron clinic coat, have lunch etc at home before i head out. I have no idea who the senior dental assistant is Sarah Thompson. I'm sure someone will show me ;p. I think next semester i'll be assisting more than one day because from memory, lab finishes so there is much more time :D monday and wednesday hehe.
A respiration quiz is on Friday, I think i'll be fine for that regardless i'll have to make notes on respiration tomorrow.
